How it should look when it is installed
Just so you know what you are working towards and to check it is properly installed you should see the below.
The title bar of a Raiser's Edge Constituent record should look like this i.e. title 'Name - [ID]':
The tray icon for SmartSOCIAL should be visible in the windows tray (bottom right of your screen), this is the 'in' icon:
Finally you should see the SmartSOCIAL window next to any Constituent window. Make sure you have not maximised the Constituent window and that you have not disabled SmartSOCIAL - Right click the tray icon and select 'Enable SmartSOCIAL' if in doubt.
Step 1: Tasks for your Raiser's Edge Administrator
These only need to be done once for an organisation using SmartSOCIAL but you will need rights to configure Addressee/Salutations and (optionally) the knowledge of how to create an export and import in RE. The whole process should take 5 to 10 minutes so is not a major undertaking.
Step 2: Install SmartSOCIAL Raiser's Edge
Your installation link and license details for SmartSOCIAL RE are provided to you by SmartTHING via email. You have two installation links, choose the most appropriate:
- The first is a download link for the smartsocial.exe file itself which we recommend you place on the desktop and run
- The second gets around most virus checker issues or other issues that some users find and is a windows installer. Unfortunately to run it requires admin rights on your PC.
Our suggestion therefore is to try the first open above and if that gives issues revert to the installer and your IT team.
When you first run SmartSOCIAL RE, you will be prompted for license details which you will find in the email we have sent you.
Step 3: Configure your RE User Options
ALL SmartSOCIAL RE users MUST update their user options to use the format NAME [ID].
To do this visit the Menu in RE: Tools > User Options and then navigate to the tab Records and select Individuals > Individual title bar. Select 'Use addressee from Configuraiton' and the 'William Smith - [999999]' addressee (usually the last in the list). This allows SmartSOCIAL to recognise that it should appear and which record is being shown.
Step 4: Set up SmartSOCIAL RE
As with any application you will want to configure it to your needs. When you first run SmartSOCIAL it will prompt you for your license name and key which were in your trial email or provided by your RE administrator.
You will probably though also want to set up the application for your system. To do this right click the 'in' tray icon (bottom right of the screen) and select 'Settings'
You will be presented with the below dialog (note this may have been updated since the screenshot as we are adding features constantly) where you can select your LinkedIn Profiles CSV file. Your RE admin may have already created one with all the LinkedIn Profiles you already have on Raiser's Edge so check with them as to where this file is. It should usually be on an office shared drive so everyone can use the same file.
If they have not created a file, create a new one, again best for this to be on a network drive and tell everyone where it is so they can also use it.
You should also enter the phone type you use in RE for your LinkedIn Profile URLs, this will help with sending data back to RE such as the persons LinkedIn profile URL.
