If you are adding an email to RE using SmartGMAIL or SmartOUTLOOK and this message pops up “Did you press any keys to interrupt the process?” it indicates that the process is timing out or that another action is open. If another action is open, close it and try again.
Most common solution
Install the application using our windows installers, these place the program in a trusted folder on your machine and overcome most issues. Unfortunately it requires admin rights on your machine so we suggest you try them but if you have issues get your IT guys involved to do the install:
- Note: You can use the same username and license details you have already been provided
Other options
Option 1
Verify that the settings you have for Action Type, Category, Notepad Type, Title etc. are all correct i.e. they are valid entries in RE. There are different settings for sent and received emails, please do ensure that these settings are valid. Often these issues effect the paste process of copying information into RE.
Option 2
Ensuring that you right click on each smartoutlook.exe or smartgmail.exe executable, select properties and ‘Unblock’ it if an unblock button displayed there.
Option 3 - NOT FOR BLACKBAUD HOSTED CLIENTS
Some clients install Raiser’s Edge and have it set to run with ‘Administrator’ rights or in compatability mode for earlier versions of Windows. This is usually to get around problems with Windows User Account Control – UAC. However, it is only necessary to run RE as an administrator once after a database settings change, then it can be run as a normal user.
You will know if this is the case if the Raiser's Edge icon has a small shield on it or you are prompted every time you run RE you are asked for permission to run the program. To correct:
- Right click on the Raiser’s Edge shortcut and click ‘Properties’
- On the ‘Compatibility’ tab then if selected please uncheck ‘Run this program as an administrator’ and uncheck 'Run in compatability mode' (note you may need to clich the 'Change settings for all users' button first to be able to do this).
Note: In future if you want to run it as administrator to pick up new settings you can right click on the Raiser’s Edge shortcut and select ‘Run as administrator’. In all other cases you can run normally and SmartOUTLOOK and SmartGMAIL will be able to work with it.
Option 4
Remove the canvasser entry from settings if you have provided one – then try adding your email as an action. If this works then the canvasser entry is incorrect.
To find the correct canvasser entry you should manually add the canvasser to an action and save it. Then open the action and note exactly the text that appears in the canvasser field – enter this into the tool settings (note: include and spaces, commas etc. it must be exactly the same).
Option 5
To stop this happening, you can increase the ‘window open wait’ setting:
- Click on the SmartOUTLOOK or SmartGMAIL icon in the toolbar
- Move the “Window open wait” slider all the way to the right
