SmartSOCIAL RE: Exporting existing LinkedIn Profiles

SmartSOCIAL RE: Exporting existing LinkedIn Profiles

In RE, you may already have LinkedIn profile links. If so you can put these in a file that SmartSOCIAL RE can use.

Creating the query

First you will need to create a query to select all the constituents that have a LinkedIn profile link. As an example in our database we set the query up as below Constituent Information > Phones > 'LinkedIn Profile Phone number' not blank (illustrated below).

Note: Alternative approach is to filter on Phone type = 'LinkedIn Profile' AND Phone number not blank AND Phone inactive? = No. Depends on how you store your phone numbers as to which approach to use. The key thing is that all records with a valid LinkedIn profile are selected.

Save the Query with the name 'LinkedIn Profiles' which we will use later during our export.

NOTE: for very old RE versions (7.92, 7.93) with phones attached to addresses you should change the criteria to select all records you wish to work with in RE. Note try and keep this to less than the entire database as that would slow down SmartSOCIAL but include any records for which you are likely to want to update or store the LinkedIn Profile address.

Creating the Export

Next we create an Export using the 'LinkedIn Profiles' query and output the results to a CSV file for SmartSOCIAL RE to use. Using the export feature in RE, select the LinkedIn Profiles query (illustrated below).

Go to Export in RE and click 'New Export', select a Constituent, Comma-Separated Values export.

Select the LinkedIn Profiles query by clicking Include > Selected Records and selecting your query. You can add any further criteria to the Export or Query to suit your needs:

Ensure that the following fields are present in the export Output tab:

  • Constituent Information > Constituent ID
  • Phones > Phone number
  • Phones > Import ID
  • Phones > Phone type
  • Phones > Is Primary?
  • Phones > Date Last Changed
Note: when you drag the first phone field over you will be prompted for a few settings, please use the below:

After you have dragged all these fields over it should like something like this:

IMPORTANT:
  • Make sure your export fields are in the order above
  • If you are in a version of RE that does not have Is Primary? or Date Last Changed (i.e. v7.92, 7.93 of RE) please export the Preferred Address Import ID instead of these two fields as below:

Now click 'Export Now' and select a location to store your LinkedIn Profiles.csv file - note if sharing SmartSOCIAL use with your team we would suggest you place this file on a network drive that all of you can access. SmartSOCIAL RE is team compatible as long as you all share the same LinkedIn Profiles.csv file

Finally Save the export and give it a sensible name i.e. 'LinkedIn Profiles for SmartSOCIAL'
