SmartOUTLOOK - Set up instructions

SmartOUTLOOK works with Raiser's Edge NXT - both web view and the older RE version through Citrix/Database view. You can use Outlook desktop edition and Outlook through the web and still store your emails in  Raiser's Edge.

There are some additional configuration options and steps though that you would take depending on which browser you are going to use.

Outlook through the web and RE NXT web view

We only support Chrome web browser for this configuration and the install is very simple. Just install the Chrome extension.

Outlook desktop versions

For Outlook desktop edition you will need to install our SmartOUTLOOK desktop client. This is installed on each computer locally even if you run RE through Citrix. The installer is:

Normal RE desktop version (Citrix/Database View)

This is the simplest and also the default option. In settings ensure the program mode is set to 'Standard - Outlook desktop to RE desktop'. If you have made any setting changes then restart your computer.

RE NXT web in Internet Explorer

  1. Go to SmartOUTLOOK settings (right click the 'O' icon in the windows tray - bottom right of your screen) - and select 'Settings'.

  2. In the Program mode field select 'Outlook desktop to RE NXT web (IE): 
  3. Make sure you have RE NXT open in an Internet Explorer window
  4. Then in the settings window click the 'IE Setting' button. Once you confirm the dialog that pops up click the search icon in the RE NXT search bar (magnifying glass)
  5. Then return to Settings and click Save
  6. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
Note: you will need Raiser's Edge NXT Web view open in Internet Explorer when trying to record emails as actions.

RE NXT web in Chrome

  1. Go to SmartOUTLOOK settings (right click the 'O' icon in the windows tray - bottom right of your screen) - and select 'Settings'.

  2. In the Program mode field select 'Outlook desktop to RE NXT web (Chrome):
     
  3. In your Chrome web browser install our Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smartoutlook-nxt/dbamcgjghlobpojjecgbmdhohihklfjg?hl=en-GB
  4. In Chrome go to Tools > Extensions and for the SmartOUTLOOK NXT extensions tick the 'Allow access to file URLs' option:

  5. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
Note: you will need Raiser's Edge NXT Web view open in Chrome when trying to record emails as actions.
